About PayCalcTools
PayCalcTools is an independent website that provides free calculators for pay, compensation, employment, freelancing, and tax-related calculations.
The website was founded and built by Rauf Ahmad, a web developer and product builder, together with a small team.
Our goal is simple: make practical calculations easier to understand, easier to check, and easier to use.
Who we are
PayCalcTools is not a government agency, payroll company, accounting firm, law firm, or financial institution.
Our team’s primary background is in web development, product development, research, and building online tools.
Because some of the subjects covered by our calculators involve employment law, payroll rules, taxation, and other areas where accuracy matters, we take a source-first approach.
We research the applicable rules, identify authoritative sources, translate those rules into documented calculation methods, implement the calculations, and test the results before publishing them.
Meet the Founder
Rauf Ahmad
Founder & Product Builder, PayCalcTools
Rauf Ahmad is a web developer and product builder who founded PayCalcTools with a small team.
His role includes:
Calculator development
Web development
Research and source verification
Calculation implementation
Testing
Documentation
Product development
Website maintenance
Rauf’s professional background is in web development and product building rather than accounting, payroll, tax, or employment law.
For that reason, PayCalcTools does not present personal expertise as a substitute for official authority. Instead, we research and cite the applicable government, legislative, regulatory, or other authoritative sources behind the calculations.
Why We Built PayCalcTools
Pay and employment calculations can be difficult to verify.
A worker may want to know whether overtime was calculated correctly. A freelancer may need to determine an appropriate day rate. Someone leaving a job may need to understand their notice period. A customer may want to work backward from a tax-inclusive price.
The mathematics may sometimes be simple, but the underlying rules, assumptions, terminology, and jurisdictional differences can make these questions difficult.
We built PayCalcTools to make these calculations more understandable and transparent.
Our Approach
Our general process is:
Official sources → Research → Calculation methodology → Implementation → Testing → Explanation
We try to make the reasoning behind each calculator visible instead of simply displaying an unexplained result.
Where appropriate, calculator pages provide:
The formula used
Worked examples
Applicable jurisdiction
Official sources
Assumptions
Limitations
Review dates
How We Use Official Sources
When a calculator depends on legal, regulatory, or government rules, we look for the most authoritative source available.
Depending on the subject, sources may include:
Government departments
Legislation
Regulations
Official government guidance
Recognized regulatory or professional organizations
For US employment topics, this may include sources such as the U.S. Department of Labor and applicable federal regulations.
For UK employment topics, this may include GOV.UK, UK legislation, HMRC, and ACAS.
The applicable source is identified on individual calculator or guide pages wherever practical.
How We Use AI
We may use AI-assisted tools to help with drafting, organization, research assistance, or development workflows.
AI does not replace our verification process.
Formulas, legal claims, examples, calculations, and source references are checked against the applicable sources before publication.
Where there is a conflict between an AI-generated suggestion and an authoritative source, the authoritative source takes priority.
What We Don't Claim
PayCalcTools is not:
A government agency
A law firm
An accounting firm
A payroll provider
A tax advisory service
A financial institution
Our calculators provide general calculations based on the methodology and assumptions shown on each page.
They cannot account for every possible employment contract, employer policy, tax situation, exemption, collective bargaining agreement, or jurisdiction-specific rule.
For situations requiring individualized professional judgment, users should consult the appropriate qualified professional or official authority.
Accuracy and Corrections
We aim to make our calculations as transparent and reliable as possible.
That means documenting the methodology, identifying sources, testing calculator logic, and updating information when relevant rules change.
We also recognize that errors can occur.
If you believe a calculator or article contains an error, please contact us. We investigate reported issues against the relevant methodology and sources and correct confirmed errors.
